Word Problem Weekend

College Hawkey, eh!

Here are some math "word problems" for you.
(For those of you who are mathmatically deficient like me, the answers are at the bottom)

MOVING DAY
  • Arika, her infant daughter, and her dad Ron have to move out of two separate apartments. They have rented a 17' van from U-Haul to help move but it is due back by 2:00pm. Arika's apartment will take three hours to move. 16 people have volunteered to help them move. But only 14 people will be there until 12:00 and two more people will take their place. Ron's apartment will take 180 minutes to move. how long will it take to move Ron, Arika, and her daughter to their 5 room townhome?
HOCKEY NIGHT
  • J-Bone has invited his brother Bernt to a hockey game between the Minnesota Gophers and the University of North Dakota Sioux. Also going to the game will be their friends Snake, Lee, Jim-Bo, and Dewy. Going into that night, the Gophers were ranked first in the WCHA with 13 wins and the Sioux had 8 wins. Towards the end of the first period, the Gophers led 3-2. If the Sioux scored 5 unanswered goals, what was the final score?

MOVING DAY ANSWER=6
HOCKEY NIGHT ANSWER=3-7

This is what Snake, Lee, Jim-Bo, and J-Bone looked like after the Gopher game. Ironically, it was the same way the Gophers looked. Tired, sad, confused, and just plain defeated.

Monday, January 29th, 2007/1 Samuel chapters 13-15

GOD'S MESSAGE FOR ME TODAY
Samuel said,
"Has the LORD as much delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices
As in obeying the voice of the LORD?
Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice,
And to heed than the fat of rams.
For rebellion is as the sin of divination,
And insubordination is as iniquity and idolatry
Because you have rejected the word of the LORD,
He has also rejected you from being king."1 Samuel 15:22 & 23

HOW DOES THIS APPLY TO MY LIFE?
I like the way Eugene Peterson puts it in the Message:
22-23 Then Samuel said,
Do you think all God wants are sacrifices—
empty rituals just for show?
He wants you to listen to him!
Plain listening is the thing,
not staging a lavish religious production.
Not doing what God tells you
is far worse than fooling around in the occult.
Getting self-important around God
is far worse than making deals with your dead ancestors.
Because you said No to God's command,
he says No to your kingship.
